Professor Mara R. Wade was awarded a Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in conjunction with research during her sabbatical.

Professor Yasemin Yildiz, Professor Michael Rothberg, and their colleague Dr. Andrés Nader (Berlin) have been awarded a 2011-2012 ACLS Collaborative Research Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies for their project "Citizens of Memory: Muslim Immigrants and Holocaust Remembrance in Contemporary Germany."


Kerstin Istvanits attended the Fulbright FLTA conference in Washington D.C. from Dec. 8-12,2010, where she gave a presentation on "Teaching culture(s) via movie scenes - selected activities for German movies". The ppt is available on:

Paul Meyer presented a paper called "Violence in the 'Historia von D. Johann Fausten'" at the 2011 MLA on January 6th.

Professor Mara R. Wade organized two panels at the 2011 MLA.  One panel, “Narrating Early Modern Violence,” was a regularly scheduled panel offered by the Society of German Renaissance and Baroque Literature. The other panel, "Exotic Collections," was an MLA special session.

Professor Yasemin Yildiz gave an invited lecture "Not Integrated: The Willful Neglect of Immigrant Perspective in the Current Debates" at the symposium Integration and Multiculturalism: Germany Debates at the Max Kade Center, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH on January 27, 2011.

Professor Yasemin Yildiz and Professor Michael Rothberg gave a joint invited lecture titled “Memory Citizenship: Migrant Archives of Holocaust Remembrance in Contemporary Germany” at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI on February 11, 2011.


This semester, the weekly Swedish conversation hour takes place on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 @ Espresso Royale on Goodwin & Oregon.
