Professors Yasemin Yildiz and Michael Rothberg gave a joint keynote titled “Citizens of Memory: Holocaust Remembrance and Transnational Migration” at Memory, Migration, and Materiality, an interdisciplinary conference held at the New School for Social Research in New York on May 1, 2014.

Professor Anke Pinkert presented “Mending a Present in Peril: Memories of 1989 and its Aftermath,” Symposium, Specters of the Other Germany: 25 Years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall,” University of Toronto, Canada, April 18-19, 2014.

Professor Anke Pinkert will present “Radical Bonds: Collaborating across Prison Boundaries,” 5th Global Conference: Experiencing Prison: a Persons Project, Lisbon Portugal, May 6-8, 2014.

Professor Carl Niekerk presented "Reading Goethe with Blumenbach" at the Midwest Symposium in German Studies, April 4 and 5, at the University of Notre Dame. His paper can be read here:


GLL student Karin Lee has been awarded a Fulbright FLTA award for AY 2015 in Austria. Karin is a music performance major and will graduate this spring. She was mentored in her application by Professor Mara Wade. Her recommenders from GLL are Mara Wade and Charlie Webster.
