Scandinavian Program

Coffee Hour

Students and faculty involved in the Scandinavian Program regularly get together during the semester for informal conversation. The Coffee Hour gives students an opportunity to practice speaking Swedish in a relaxed environment, to get to know others who share their interest in Scandinavia, and to sometimes hear Danish and Norwegian depending on who shows up. Coffee provided, bring your own treats! Please contact Dr. Mark Safstrom for information about meeting times:

Research and Scholarly Presentations

Faculty, graduate students, and visiting scholars regularly contribute with talks and presentations on Scandinavian-related topics. For information about current events, please see the calendar of the School of Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics or contact Anna Westerstahl Stenport:

Annual Community Lucia Celebration and "Julfest"Julfest

The Scandinavian Program has an annual Sankta Lucia celebration called “Julfest” at the end of fall semester, attended by students, faculty, and members of the community with an interest in Scandinavia. The program involves an informal sing-along concert followed by a dessert reception. Usually held the last weekend that classes are in session. Please contact Dr. Mark Safstrom for event details, or for information about how to participate in the music.
